Protective Extensions
Braids and fibre, done properly.
Box braids, knotless, faux locs and weaves. Weight, takedown timing and scalp visibility under the fibre decide whether your hair grows or thins.
The routine
- 1
Tension check at install
If your scalp is sore on day one it is too tight. Have it redone — do not “wait it out”.
- 2
Weekly scalp wash
Diluted shampoo between the rows, rinse well, dry under cool air. Do not soak the fibre.
- 3
Night protection
A loose satin bonnet or a low, loose braid. No tight pineapple at the nape.
- 4
Takedown window
Six to eight weeks, maximum. Book the takedown on the day you install.
Timing
Six to eight weeks, no exception — then give the scalp two clear weeks before the next install.
Keep
- — Diluted shampoo between the rows
- — A light oil along exposed scalp
- — Conditioner-heavy takedown
Drop
- — Heavy cream at the root under fibre
- — Sleeping on cotton
- — Re-installing the day after a takedown
